Copper Availability and Attributes

atas-copper-th.jpgCopper is a natural metal which develops a patina over time.  This durable and corrosion resistant material has been used for centuries.  Many products from ATAS are available in 16 oz. and 20 oz. copper (depending on the profile).

  • Copper is 100% recyclable
  • Can be perpetually recycled without loss of performance or qualities
  • Higher life cycle than other materials
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Copper naturally patinas over time
  • The environment and atmosphere where a building is located will affect how quickly copper patinas
  • Factory pre-patinated and pre-finished copper is available in a variety of colors and patterns
  • Many roof and wall panel profiles are available from ATAS in copper
  • Copper gutters and downspouts are also available
  • Copper wall panels can be perforated
  • Contact ATAS for details and material considerations

The ability to form complex shapes and to be soldered are characteristics of copper building components.  Copper offers low thermal expansion values (lower than aluminum and zinc, but slightly higher than steel). Experience and working knowledge of copper components is imperative for a quality product and installation.  Gloves should be worn when handling copper, as fingerprints are quite visible on that material.

ASV (Above Sheathing Ventilation) can be used with copper panels to yield energy savings in summer and winter, and can also remove unwanted moisture.

Ensure that copper is not used with dissimilar materials such as zinc and aluminum.  As well, it is important that appropriate underlayments and sealants are used with copper panels, to avoid any incompatibility issues.
