Building Code Requirements for Exterior Cladding

The International Building Code (IBC) has three main chapters that apply to exterior cladding.

Chapter 14 - Exterior Walls

  • Combustible material of it applies to exterior walls and assemblies
  • MCM (Metal Composite Material)

  • Specific adherence to prevention of water infiltration
  • Combustible materials on exterior side of exterior walls

Chapter 15 - Roof Assemblies & Rooftop Structures
  • Definitions of various roof assemblies

    • Other roof systems such as through fastened metal panel systems
  • Weather protection
  • Performance requirements
  • Fire classifications
