Celebrating the 20th year of ATAS Project of the Year Awards, new categories were developed to recognize the creative designs and use of the diverse product line ATAS offers. The new categories are; Commercial Roofs, Commercial Walls, Residential Roofs, and Residential Walls.
First Place Awards
The winning project in the commercial roof division was the Children’s Hospital of Kings Daughters Princess Ann Office Building in Virginia Beach, VA. The Bone White Field-Lok panels were distributed by Best Distributing Company of Virginia Beach, VA and installed by Shaddeau Roofing & Construction of Norfolk, VA. The building’s architectural firm was Paul Finch & Associates P.C., also of Norfolk, VA. The 4,375-square-foot roof required staggered spliced panels to achieve the visual impact of this double curve with a 74-foot radius that loops back down to a 300-foot radius creating a concave and convex S-shape.

The winning project in the commercial walls division was the North Carolina Central University BRITE building in Durham, NC. The project’s architects were from the Freelon Group in Durham, NC who chose the Silversmith (coated on both sides) perforated Belvedere panels. The panels were distributed by Insulation Systems in Raleigh, NC and installed by SDS Corporation from Apex, NC. This vastly visible 45 foot high modern archway is the focal point of the NCCU campus and shows the unique profiles and options available with metal.

The winning project from the residential roofs division was a private residence in Mobile, AL. The Sierra Tan Castle Top® roof was installed by Thomas Roofing in Mobile, AL and distributed by Roofers Mart SE from Pensacola, FL. The home’s architectural firm was L. Craig Roberts Architects also from Mobile, AL. This 27,825-square-foot roof demonstrates craftsmanship and unique design using diamond shaped metal shingles.
The winning project in the residential walls division was a private residence in East Hampton, NY. The architect, Joe Eisner, AIA from Eisner Design LLC, in New York, NY, used Silversmith Dutch Seam panels. The distributor and installer was JA Copperworks Inc. in East Hampton, NY. This modern home was wrapped in metal creating an envelope of protection and multiple green qualities, including “cool roof/wall” product that is ENERGY STAR® qualified.

Commercial Roofs
The second place winner in the commercial roofing division was the Kan Pai Restaurant in Richmond, VA. The Scan Roof® & Belvedere panels in Hartford Green, Rawhide, and Coppertone were distributed by ABC Supply in Richmond, VA and installed by Bon-Air Exteriors in Richmond, VA. The architectural firm for the project was Strange – Boston Associates of Richmond, VA.

The third place winner in the commercial roofing division was Lenz Orthodontics in Harrisonburg, VA. The Multi-Purpose Panels, Dutch Seam, Opaline, and PC System Panels in Slate Grey were installed by Skyline Roofing of Harrisonburg, VA and distributed by Bradco Supply Corp. of Roanoke, VA. The contractor was D.K. Patterson Construction, Inc., also from Harrisonburg, VA.

Commercial Walls
The second place winner in the commercial walls division was the Grant Ave Mall from Philadelphia, PA. The Redwood, Coppertone, and Champagne Rigid-Wall were distributed by Harvey Industries in Bethlehem, PA and installed by R W Thomas Design in Horsham, PA. The architectural firm was Stuart G. Rosenberg Architects, also from Philadelphia, PA.

The third place winner in the commercial walls division was the Southern Maryland Baseball Stadium in Waldorf, MD. The Belvedere panels in Sandstone and Redwood were distributed by Bradco Supply Corp., Lorton, VA and the installer was J. P. Park Associates, Inc. in Springfield, VA. The architectural firm was Skanska USA Building Inc. from Rockville, MD.

Residential Roofs
The second place winner in the residential roofs division was a private residence in Monticello, NY. The Coppertone Field-Lok panels were installed by Piazza Construction of Middletown, NY and distributed by Arzee Supply, Middletown, NY. The architectural firm for the project was John Horton Architects of Wurtsboro, NY.

The third place winner in the residential roofs division was a private residence in Chandler, AZ. The metal roof was Advanta® Americana in Mojave Desert Tan.

Residential Walls
The second place winner in the residential walls division was a private residence in Manchester, MA. The Rocky Grey Corra-Lok panels were distributed by Beacon Sales in Peabody, MA and the installer was Gannett Construction in Essex, MA. The project’s architectural firm was Lerner Ladd & Bartels Inc. of Providence, RI.

The third place winner in the residential walls division was a project in West New York, NJ. The Metafor, Dutch Seam, and Design Wall in Silversmith were installed by CP Building Enterprises, West New York, NJ and distributed by Arzee Supply of Cedar Knolls, NJ. The architectural firm was CPA Architecture also of West New York, NJ.
